From January 1978 to February 1979, Deng Xiaoping visited Myanmar, Nepal, North Korea, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and the United States. This series of visits, especially to the United States and Japan, helped Deng Xiaoping to accurately position the relationship between China and the outside world, and initially formed a strategic thinking of promoting common development and mutual benefit between China and the world through reform and opening up.
